Pet Pals rescue column: Week of Sept. 28

September 29, 2016
Fort Myers Beach Bulletin, Fort Myers Beach Observer

Sweet, shiny smooth Apple girl

We generally stay local but when we heard of this little dog in a high-kill Shelter going crazy, stressed and shaking, we couldn't refuse her. Apple is a sweet female Fox Terrier with a smooth coat. She was surrendered by her owners when they decided to move. After five years in a home, she was suddenly in a kill shelter. Now that she is safe again, she is a happy girl. A little fearful until she gets to know you, but, she is great with other dogs and loves to play with toys. She's had her shots and is ready for a forever home.

It's so sad when pets put their trust in someone and love them, then abandoned out of the blue. All of us who rescue have a hard time understanding that concept. Please call 239-281-0739 to meet Apple.

Short-legged sweety

This is the cutest, shortest-legged Corgi girl we've ever had in the Rescue! She was found on the street and brought to the Kill Shelter. We rescued her just in time. First thing she did is put her head on our volunteer's lap and wanted to be kissed. That was heartbreaking. Now she needs her forever home. We were told she is around 7 years old, but she might be younger. She is in good health and only wants love. She is good with cats. Please call 239-281-0739 to meet this short-legged sweety.

She is sweet as Sugar

We met Sugar a couple weeks ago at the Shelter. She was so sweet and submissive; a very nice, all-around dog. No trouble at all. She is a big girl and is laid back. When we went back over the weekend to check on her, she was on her bed sleeping, just watching in the corner of her eye. She had the look of "lost," like she didnt understand what was going on. Being in a big cage for hours and have only a few outside walk and love is not what this great girl hoped for.

She is around 7 years old and might even be younger. Sugar is in good health and would make a great companion. If you can help this great girl, please go see her at Lee Animal Services, Fort Myers, at 5600 Banner Road. She deserves much more.

Sweet chiweenie baby

He looks like a Dachshund but there is some Chi in there! We don't see them very often in the Rescue. He is a 2-year old black and brown Chiweenie, picked up as a stray and was very fearful. In the kennel environment, he is terrified and not doing well. His intake weight was 10 pounds. Shelter staff said ""We met him and he warmed up. He is a cutie for sure. He was tested with other dogs and he was fine. We are hoping for a home with another dog so he can get better and better every day." Please call 239-281-0739 for more information on this sweety.

Bud, beach boy puppy

This is our new guy on the block. He is not so big, only 35 pounds, and is beautiful. He is only 11 months old and will take someone who is comfortable with his high energy. We do not have a foster for him and had to make the decision at the last minute to pull him from the Kill Shelter! Now we just need your help to find him a good home. He is a great baby boy and we will provide training to make the transition a nice and smooth one. Please call 239-281-0739.

Come love Mango

This little guy was a stray and running so fast, he had to be caught by an officer who brought him to the Shelter. Mango was so sad and scared, shaking and wanted to leave this very noisy place. We don't know much about him yet, except that he has a very nice disposition. Mango is very sweet and would make a great companion. Would you be kind and help him? He is 5 years old and will give someone a lot of love. He just needs a little corner in a nice, safe loving place and some attention and kisses. You can call 239-281-0739 for more information.
