Town of Fort Myers Beach Leadership Conference: A participant's view

To the Editor:

On Thursday and Friday, April 6 and 7 theTownship of Fort Myers Beach, through its Community Resource Advisory Board (CRAB), played host to its bi-yearly Leadership Conference. It is free to all taxpayers on Estero Island.

I attended this event and, in the end, received a Certificate of Achievement for participating. More importantly than any certificate, was the learning about our little island, how the Township functions, its programs, parks, advisory groups, events and committed volunteers. The agenda was packed, with the first day starting with meeting with Town Council, then the Manager, Town Clerk, Fire Chief, Sheriff's Office Captain.....even EITA made a presentation.

The second day was the "excursion day" where senior staff met and toured with us Bowditch Park, Mound House, FMB Library, FMB Elementary, Bay Oaks, Matanzas Pass and the Historical Cottage....This two day program was exhausting, but also amazing and I strongly recommend you take this free course. It is offered every two years and participation is on a first come, first served basis. Not only do I come away with a very thorough understanding and respect for our Town and this community, but also now know who to call for what.

I want to thank CRAB for organizing the conference and the many dozens of people who participated in making this event so very extraordinary.
