The Salty Crab doubled down on its fundraising record this year.

In 2016, the Fort Myers Beach restaurant raised $5,000 for the new Golisano Children's Hospital; this year, staff from the corporate office in Clearwater and the local restaurant presented a check of $10,000 to Lee Health Foundation for the hospital on Tuesday, June 27.

"It's incredible, they take it on themselves," said Jason Powella of the Lee Health Foundation. "It's a testament to how local businesses and the community support the children's hospital."

The Salty Crab staff and corporate representatives presented a hefty check to the Lee Health Foundation on Tuesday.

Golisano Children's Hospital opened its doors May 10. The funds raised will be put toward the hospital's support services, Powella said.

From March through May, the Salty Crab on Fort Myers Beach donated $1 of every rum bucket sale to go to its charitable effort for Golisano.

Salty Crab is owned by umbrella corporation, Beachside Hospitality Group. There are five other restaurants in Florida, and each manages its own local charitable efforts.

"We wanted them to find something local that matters to them," said Julia Cassino of Beachside Hospitality Group.

But it's not the Fort Myers Beach location's first charitable endeavor. At Thanksgiving and Christmas, the restaurant partnered with Lexington Middle School to identify families in need and delivered whole turkeys and hams to them for a holiday dinner.
