Getting Artsy -- House of the Rising Sun offers art and craft courses through summer

Since first opening several weeks ago, House of the Rising Sun Art Bar, 17979 San Carlos Blvd., has offered a beautiful selection of hand-crafted artisan creations, along with a relaxing environment that serves beer, wine and plenty of fun.

The owners now want to take their love for art one step further, offering special crafting classes throughout the summertime months.

Coming up, a Something to Wine About Paint party will take place Tuesday, July 11, and a candle-crafting course will heat up Thursday, July 13 at the San Carlos Boulevard establishment.

Something to Wine about Paint Party

This fun painting class starts at 7 p.m. Tuesday, and zero artistic skill is required to create a masterpiece. Just in time for turtle season, the theme for this week's class is "Turtle Time," depicting baby sea turtles scuffling back to the shoreline.

The cost to participate is $40, which includes all supplies, paint, class instruction, and two glasses of wine or beer. RSVP?ahead of time so owner Chelsey Cook knows how many spots to set up. There are only have 14 seats available for each event, so register early to ensure you can make it. Must be 21 to participate.

Candle making fun

Join Kim Fielding of You Candle It! Thursday for a hands-on candle-making course. You'll have everything you need at your fingertips to be able to take home two 4-ounce candles, all made with sea salt scrubs. Personalize them to make them truly yours, and truly one of a kind.

The cost is $40 and includes the class and instruction, all supplies needed and two drinks. Seating is limited to 12 for this class, so call ahead to ensure a spot.

"We will have this event on Thursday throughout summer and season. If you can't catch this one, there will be more we can reserve!" said House of the Rising Sun owner Chelsey Cook.
