Ready to Rock -- Flying Hasslehoffs CD release party at the Buddha Friday

July 19, 2017

It's no secret our little strip of Fort Myers Beach is home to some of the most talented musicians from around the world. Take the Flying Hasslehoffs, for example. These boys have done it all, traveled the world in the name of rock and roll and came back to keep the music alive right here on the island.

Recently expanding to four members, the group has been hard at work making their band a household name and pleased to announce the release of their first album with a huge CD release party at the Buddha Bar, 12701 McGregor Blvd., Friday, July 21, starting around 10 p.m.

Johnny Hyatt and Timmy Johnston, founders of the rock band, are eager to talk about their road to rocking, and the welcoming of two new members to the band.

The Flying Hasslehoffs’ is proud to have a CD release party at The Buddha Bar Friday, July 21, kicking off around 10 p.m. The all-original 10-track self-titled album is the band’s first release, already getting tons of air play and requests in the U.K. and beyond. "We were happy to welcome drummer Michael Casella II and bassist/vocalist Rick Gerstein earlier this year, and the album has actually been in the making for a couple of years now," Johnny said.

Also members of the successful group 10,000 Views, with dynamic drummer Stet Howland, Johnny and Timmy (and Stet, of course) were performing as the back-up band for a Las Vegas variety show last summer. During their off times, the boys would write and record for the other projects they had in the fire.

"Johnny and I would have a lot of time on our hands between performances out there, so we set up a mini recording studio and wrote some tunes, recording rough drafts," Timmy said. "We ended up writing some songs between us that got the ball rolling. Then we wrote one together, and it just went on from there, recording in our professional studio when we got back."

The self-titled album is the first release from the Flying Hasslehoffs, featuring 10 all-original tracks from the group, including cameo appearances and special performances from fellow dynamite musicians from the island and beyond.

"The first track is one I did with Bryce Barnes, an instrumental,"?Johnny said.

The band prides itself on its ability to perform a wide variety of music from different genres of rock and beyond.

"We try to really mix it up in our covers, as well playing all kinds of different cover songs," Timmy said. "Our originals are more 'mainstream radio rock,' Counting Crows, Matchbox 20, Bob Dylan."

During the CD?release party at The Buddha Friday, The Flying Hasslehoffs will be performing three sets.

"The first two sets will be covers; the last will be all original," Timmy said. "The Buddha will have all kinds of special promotions going on that night, too maybe even some free drinks."

There's no cost to get into the 21-and-up show that night, and if you're looking to get your hands on a copy of the band's new album, it'll cost you just $10, with Flying Hasslehoffs band shirts for $15, or get yourself a CD/shirt bundle for $19.95. Other fun band merch and paraphernalia will be on the table that night, as well.

"If we happen to sell out of CDs that night, we'll have digital copies available, too," Johnny said.

The boys are sure to say many thank-yous to all who've made this possible for them.

"We'd like to thank all of our family, friends and fans who support us; our sound guy, Robert Cable, who's more than just a sound guy to us; Miss Diane Lawler of the Buddha and the entire Buddha staff. We're looking forward to a rockin' show Friday night and we hope everyone comes out," the boys said, during our conference call interview. "Plus, we'll have a few surprises up our sleeves."

On the horizon

The band continues to grow, and as Timmy says, "Bigger is better."

They've been receiving radio play in spots around the world "we've been getting lots of air play and requests in England, and a good possibility we'll be playing over there soon," Johnny said. "We've also been getting air play and requests in New England."

Locally, look forward to seeing this fabulous foursome on Fox 4's The Morning Blend later this month, "possibly July 27," and hopefully our local radio stations will begin spinning their new tracks, as well.
