The Jacksonville-based Florida Baptist Convention began its first mobile dental ministry in 1973, serving people out of a converted Winnebago camper. The current bus was put into commission in 1998. Since then, it has provided 30 to 35 weeks of service to various communities each year, said the Rev. Marc Johnston, church and community ministries team strategist for the Florida Baptist Convention. Funding for the unit comes from Florida Baptist church missions.
