Fort Myers Beach Fire Department launches Slumber Safe program

January 31, 2018
Fort Myers Beach Bulletin, Fort Myers Beach Observer

The Fort Myers Beach Fire Department is proud to announce the introduction of the Slumber Safe program, which is an economic incentive for those properties that are subject to routine fire inspection under 2016-001. Fire Ordinance 2016-001 requires one- and two-family homes that are utilized for vacation or short term rental, not occupied by the owner, to register and receive a fire inspection.

Slumber Safe is a program that is designed to communicate to our partners with the Town of Fort Myers Beach, Lee County Sheriff and potential tenants that a property has been registered, and inspected per the standards of the Florida Fire Prevention Code.

The Slumber Safe program will consist of a serialized decal that is placed on a structure by the responsible party, once all fire code violations have been abated. In addition, property owners, or rental agents will receive an electronic logo to display on their website to notify potential customers that they are in compliance with the registration requirement of ordinance 2016-001.

The goal of the Slumber Safe program is to stimulate an economic benefit to those owners and rental agents that are actively working on complying with the Florida Fire Prevention Code and Fire District Ordinance 2016-001.
