County to host San Carlos Island visioning meeting Saturday

February 7, 2018
Fort Myers Beach Bulletin, Fort Myers Beach Observer

If San Carlos Islanders want to speak up about their community, Saturday is the time.

Lee County staff will be hosting a public meeting to gather input from the San Carlos Island community during a community planning session Saturday, Feb. 10 at the AMI Kids Southwest Florida meeting room, 1190 Main Street, from 10 a.m.until noon.

The meeting is part of a process to update the island's community plan within the county Lee Plan. The county is undergoing a comprehensive update of the Lee Plan to expand its vision and guidance through 2040. Seventeen designated communities within unincorporated Lee County each have its own community plan that outlines goals and objectives for that specific area, and these plans will be updated with at least two community meetings before going before the local planning agency and the county commission for approval. Both entities will consider the amendments to the community plans as part of a public hearing.

According to a press release from the county, interested community members should expect to spend the two hours in the meetings. County Community Development staff will guide group discussions about the opportunities and challenges on San Carlos Island. The purpose of community plans is to address specific conditions unique to a defined area of the county. Conditions may be physical, architectural, historical, environmental, or economic in nature.
