Children eyed the candy-filled pastel dots scattered across the baseball field. The gate opened and they rushed to fill their baskets with as many as they could get their hands on.

Best ever: that's how good this year's egg hunt was rated.

Bay Oaks staff, the Beach Kids Foundation and the Fort Myers Beach Fire Department partnered up to host the annual Easter egg hunt and gift giving event at Bay Oaks Saturday.

Gavin Nephew of Indiana ran out of room in his basket, and carefully stacked them to keep them from falling out.

More than 120 children participated this year, and Bay Oaks rented inflatable bounce houses and slides to add to the day. Besides the egg hunt, the Beach Kids Foundation brought gifts to give the kids.

"With all the effort with the fire department and the kids foundation, it's the best Easter egg event we've had," said Parks and Recreation Director Sean DePalma.

The event brings many families back year after year. It attracts both local families and those who are on vacation or in town visiting relatives for the holidays.

"We come every year," said George Lixey of Ohio, who brought his daughter, June.

Tuckaway Bagel donated bagels for the event, and the Easter Bunny made an appearance.

Beach Kids Foundation's former president and board member, Fran Myers, was pleased that people were sticking around after the hunt and playing at Bay Oaks.

"It's the best one ever," she said. "The kids came to have a good time."
