Rules of the Game

To the Editor:

Will our Town Council members be able to limit themselves to exercising quality judgement and set aside their personal likes and dislikes when deciding the fate of the TPI-FMB Project? Let us hope so.

Our Local Planning Agency (LPA) has approved and recommended the development of this project (with conditions for variances) based upon the directives defined in our Comp Plan and our building codes.

Unquestionably, the future of our town is, as always, dependent upon the wisdom (or lack of it) possessed by our Council members. Will they find it appropriate to follow what may appear to be the will of the town's populace determined only by the loudest voices? Or, will they consider all benefits and drawbacks without prejudice or preference to special interest groups?

This new TPI-FMB project has recently been negatively bombarded by a handful of local competitive hotel owners. Unsavory tactics of misleading assertions have been plentiful. Will any reasonable credence be given to such self-serving voices? Or, will the subject be governed strictly by the "rules of the game?" By rules that have been accepted by the town's population and designed to insure that our island town remains desirable.

These questions relating to integrity and appropriate representation will be answered when, and only when, our council members cast their final votes.
