Three minutes aren't enough

Three minutes aren't enough

To the Editor:

I just reread you story on the Board of County Commissioners most recent recommendation in favor of the Bay Harbour Marina Village from last week's paper. It would have been worth a mention that local residents are restricted to three minutes each for comment while the developer representatives and staff have an unlimited amount of time to speak. The issues are, as you know, complex. Several of us were cut off by Commissioner. Pendergrass's ruthless timer without being able to adequately make even a single point. We had many points to make. We needed - and deserved - more time to make them.

Is this Abraham Lincoln's "Government of the people, by the people, for the people..."? It most assuredly is not.. Lee County Commissioners, including our own Larry Kiker, should be ashamed of their heavy handed and uncaring treatment of concerned citizens.
