Taste of the Beach set for Sunday

Around 20 restaurants will partake in the 24th annual Taste of the Beach this Sunday showcasing some of the Beach restaurants and their best cuisines.

Gates open at 11 a.m. with the event running until 4 p.m. Sunday, May 5, on Old San Carlos Boulevard.

"We have 16 confirmed," Fort Myers Beach Chamber of Commerce president Jacki Liszak said of the Fort Myers Beach restaurants as of April 26. "I'll expect we will have around 20."

Tickets are $5 for adults and children 12 and older at the door and food tickets are $1 each with most food ranging from $5 to $6. Tickets purchased in advance at include a package of six event entries for $25, package of one entry and 25 food tickets for $25 and a package of two entries and 110 food tickets for $100.

"We are expecting somewhere between four to 5,000 people," Liszak said.

The restaurants will compete for the Best Appetizer, Best Beef Entre, Best Seafood Entre, Best Chicken Entre, Best Dessert, Best Decorated Booth and People's Choice.

"There is a panel of celebrity judges that will be judging the food - the best surf, turf and chicken dish and the best appetizer and best dessert," she said.

In addition to the food, the festival will feature 20 vendors which includes a really nice mix of folks. She said they have everyone from Costco, and Key West Express to artisans, and service companies.

"iHeart Radio is a partner this year and they will have some giveaways," Liszak said.

Taste of the Beach will also feature its famous server competition at 1 p.m. The servers will be pitted against each other to see who has the best serving skills in a competitive but fun relay race.

"We have 10 teams of four signed up. They all know each other and we get the audience involved," Liszak said.

The music will feature The Romantics for Lovers Past Present and Future. She said they are a five-piece band that will be on the main stage from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m.

The second stage will be set up at the corner of Old San Carlos Boulevard and Third Street featuring live entertainment. Next to the stage, the new beer garden will sit. Some of the beverages include hard seltzers, sangria and wine.

"It's going to be a beautiful day. Come on out," Liszak said.
