Liki Tiki: Back to the drawing board

Liki Tiki applied to be able to have live outdoor entertainment and stood before town council on Monday, June 3. Councilmembers suggested that Liki Tiki go back to the local planning agency (LPA) and begin the application process again.

Councilmembers said that there were significant problems within the application itself. According to councilmembers, the site plan is entirely different from the building itself.

"I found this application to be insufficient to even be presented to us," said Councilmember Rexann Hosafros. "To me, the most important part, is on the 'reason for request' page and it gives you a list of bullet points to address. The applicant did not address any of the six required bullet points."

The resolution that this is based on is one that was enacted on a business in 1996, and nothing in the neighborhood has changed since, according to council members. A condition of this resolution was that there was to be no outdoor live music, because it may disrupt nearby residents.

Councilmember Joanne Shamp also expressed her concern over patrons being served alcoholic beverages while facing Estero Boulevard. There is a condition stating that businesses can't advertise the sale of alcoholic beverages from the street, and Shamp argues that this is in itself an advertisement.

"I'm not trying to quash your business," said Shamp, "but we have to have a proper legal resolution, and all the documents and everything in place."
