The PierSide Grill and Famous Blowfish Bar is closing temporarily.

The shutdown by the venerable restaurant located next to the currently blocked-off Fort Myers Beach Pier was announced Saturday. The closing follows the order issued on Friday by Gov. Ron DeSantis to restrict restaurants to takeout and delivery only, as well as the actions by the Fort Myers Beach Council and Lee County Board of Commissioners to close beach access in town.

"As our community faces the current COVID-19, PierSide Grill has been committed to following the important recommendations from Governor DeSantis, the CDC and our local health authorities. Our restaurant is temporarily closed at this time, however, we are closely monitoring all new developments and look forward to serving you again very soon. Please consider supporting us during this time by purchasing a gift card online at to enjoy at a later date," said Public Relations Manager Emily Golden in a statement.

"As always, we're thankful for the many decades we've served Southwest Florida, and we appreciate your continued loyalty and business during this challenging time for our community."

Matanzas on the Bay, which has the same ownership, is staying open with take-out orders.
